At St Paul’s we welcome you to speak with us regarding Baptism. Baptism is one of the Sacraments of the Church, which means that there is no set fee for this service. Whilst Baptism is often thought to be for babies and young children the reality is that ALL baptisms are adult decisions. Children are baptised in a response to God’s all embracing love but obviously they are usually unable to answer on their own behalf, therefore it is the adults who speak on the child’s behalf. It is the parents and godparents who make the required promises. When the child is of age then may, as an adult, confirm the promises made on their behalf as a child through the Sacrament of Confirmation. This is when they take on the responsibility for their own profession of faith.

Often people will comment that their child can make their own faith decisions when they are old enough but a child needs to have some information on which to make their own  decisions. This is one of the main reason that we make decisions to teach our children about life at home and send them to school for their formal education.

Because Baptism is an adult decision it is obvious that we are never too old to be baptised. We can make appropriate arrangements for an adult Baptism.
